You’ve received the digital image files from your photography session. Now what?

How do you make sure those images are safe and easily retrievable?

Save Your Digital Images with My #1 Tip: Save Them to at Least 2 Different Sources…

And no, I’m not talking about two different computer files.

One computer file in addition to another outside source is a better option. If one source of storage, such as your computer, malfunctions in some way, you can have peace of mind knowing you have not lost your images forever. You have wisely stored your images in an additional place, and they can easily be retrieved. Here are a few examples of different image preservation methods…

1. An external hard drive or USB – I love the WD Passport but be careful not to drop it on a tile floor. I’m speaking from experience, unfortunately, and it’s a prime example of why saving your images to a minimum of 2 different sources is vitally important.
2. Cloud Storage – I personally use Google Photo and pay about $2 a month for 100 GB. Google photo also has an app where you can automatically back up images you take on your phone.
3. Backblaze – This is an automated storage backup system that continuously backs up everything on your computer. So, if you do happen to choose a computer file as one source of storage, Backblaze will automatically back it up to their cloud storage. If your computer crashes one day, your images will be safely stored in their cloud storage. The cost for this service is currently $7 a month.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to pick a minimum of two different ways to store your pictures.

Although I try to store client images for as long as possible, I can never guarantee that I will always have them. Once they are delivered to you, they are ultimately in your care for preserving.
