This newborn session with Chandler Ray was so fun! It was the first newborn session I did to try out the film and strobe combo!
I recently took Sandra Coan’s course on film and artificial lighting and it has been such a game changer! Instead of trying to use the available natural light indoors, which is often scarce, Sandra teaches you how to implement strobe lighting. Strobes successfully give you that extra light film is always so hungry for. I love how easy it was to implement! Sandra is an awesome teacher!
For this newborn session, I used an AlienBee B400 strobe along with a 7-foot wide umbrella with a white diffuser cover. It worked like a charm! The umbrella does take up a large amount of space but I have found I can usually find a corner to squeeze it into. An additional bonus about the strobes is that it significantly helps indoor lighting when using your digital camera as well! Hello soft even light!
I’d also love to point out another new item I tried out at Chandler’s newborn session… Khanh Co. bows! These bows are handmade right here in Oklahoma and they are darling! I love how dainty and well made they are. In my opinion, they are the perfect size for newborns since they are big enough to add some cuteness but not so large that they take away from the baby! She also has a vast selection of baby clothes in timeless, classic styles! Be sure to check them out if you have a little one. You won’t be disappointed!
Now that I’ve talked all about strobes and film and cute bows I guess it’s about time I showed you the final results! Below are fourteen images, all film, that were taken at Chandler’s newborn session! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! 🙂
