So I’ve been doing some thinking and I thought it would be fun to switch my blog posts up a little bit. Instead of back to back photography work all the time, once a month I’m going to try to add in a “Lauren’s Latest” post with my top favorite things/discoveries for that particular month. This will be my first one… August 2018 Favorites! Woo Hoo!
AUGUST 2018 FAVORITES
1. Coconut Oil Face Wash
This month I ditched my regular face wash for just straight up coconut oil. I’ve really been taking extra notice of what I put in and on my body and I’m trying to stick to things that are as natural as possible! It’s important to me that I don’t flood my body with unnecessary toxins from things so using coconut oil as face wash seemed like a smart choice.
What, oil on your face? I know, it sounds weird! I actually have oily/normal skin so putting oil on my already oily skin doesn’t logically make sense but actually, it’s been AMAZING! Oil attracts oil so it removes all the yucky oil on your face without drying it out like soap or other cleansers do. I’ve actually noticed that my face has been LESS oily since using coconut oil as a face wash. That’s because coconut oil doesn’t’ strip my face dry, causing my skin to produce more oil to hydrate it. That’s right, coconut oil not only gets rid of the nasties on your face without stripping it of the good stuff it moisturizes it too. I’ve actually stopped using moisturizer because my face doesn’t even need it after using coconut oil! I just rub the coconut oil on my face, soak a washcloth with hot water, ring the washcloth out, place the washcloth on top of my face for about 20 seconds and then wipe the oil away! The remaining coconut oil on your face will sink right in within about 3 minutes, making your skin super soft and nourished!
A few other bonuses about using coconut oil for face wash is that it removes makeup like a dream, even the tough stuff that doesn’t want to budge! And it’s naturally antibacterial, so you can rest assured your getting rid of the bad bacteria on your face.
After washing with coconut oil, I generally follow up with a mixture of Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum and a few drops of Frankincense oil, both excellent for your skin and no hidden nasties in the formulas!
2. Orgain Collagen Powder
I’ve heard about the benefits of collagen powder for years now but have never bit the bullet and bought some. Mostly because all I have ever seen is the most talked about brand, Vital Proteins, and it is expensive! I have nothing against Vital Proteins. If it was a little cheaper I would definitely buy it. However, I finally found a product with the same quality ingredients at almost half the price! I’m talking about Orgain Grass Fed Collagen. I have been loving this stuff. I add two scoops to my Nalgene bottle every day, along with a dash of vanilla extract to give my water some flavor. It’s so tasty and I love knowing I get to give my gut and joints some extra love and care!
3. Simple Mills
Have you heard of this brand?! Oh my goodness, it is AWESOME! My friend Danna introduced me to Simple Mills when I was visiting her house one day. As soon as I returned home I jumped on Vitacost.com and I ordered some of their cookies, crackers and muffin mixes! Two-thirds of those items are already gone from my pantry! LoL. I just LOVED them. The ingredients in all of their products are wholesome and real! Yay! I like when I look at the back of a box and can actually understand what the ingredients are. All of their products are also paleo friendly, grain free, and non-GMO! Clean, simple ingredients without an enormous price tag and amazingly convenient. You can’t really ask for much more!
4. In Defense of Food
If you haven’t noticed already, I’m kind of a health enthusiast. I can blame that partly on my upbringing and partly on my college degree. Did you know that I majored in Nutrition at Oklahoma State? Anyways, I’m kind of a sucker for a good food documentary. This month I watch In Defense of Food. It’s on Netflix and it’s a must watch if you care anything about your health and how what you eat affects it. The documentary is actually based off of a book by Michael Pollan which I would love to read someday!
5. Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer
I guess I’ve talked enough about things that pertain to physical health so how about one that pertains to spiritual health? I’ve been divining into Discerning the Voice of God, a study by Priscilla Shirer, over the last few months and it is SO GOOD! Seriously, I cannot rave about it enough! I feel like the concept of the Holy Spirit and how he works in our lives is confusing to many Christians. I know it was for me! I had questions like… “How do I know if what I feel led to do is just me or an actual prompting from the Holy Spirit?” “How do I even begin to know when God is trying to tell me something?” This study covers it all and it has been so insightful and eye-opening in regards to the Holy Spirit, prayer, God’s timing and much more! If you are looking for a new study to dive into, definitely consider this one!
Well, that’s all for August of 2018 favorites! Thanks so much for stopping by. I loved getting to share the things I’ve been loving with you all and hope that you get to enjoy some of these things too! Until next time!
